Sorry to be late to the party.  I've got a 4GB iPod.  I use it primary
for listening to podcasts and a small amount of music.  I've got a
decent FM transmitter in my car, so that's where I listen to it most
(30+ minute commute to work each way).  Never had a problem with
either.  I'm also fine using iTunes.  Maybe I'm not geeky enough to be
a curmudgeon about MP3 players and iTunes.  :)
