Curious if some of you electronics gurus knows anything about this:

When we had DirectTV (from 2006 until last month), I never had any
problems recording things from my DVR (including movies recorded off
of HBO) onto a DVD-R using my Philips DVD Recorder. Not only did this
allow me to build a nice library of movies and other recordings on
DVD, but I could then transfer them to my iPod using HandBrake.

Now that we have AT&T U-Verse-- a setup I otherwise love-- I'm finding
I cannot record to DVD because of apparent DRM issues.

So-- I can understand the DRM issue. Same as trying to record a copy
of a DVD I bought in the store. But-- why did it work on DirectTV?
Is this just a coincidental timing issue (ie DirectTV doesn't let you
do it anymore, either) or is it that U-Verse enforces DRM and DirectTV
simply did / does not??
