Box Office Mojo ALSO says, they spent an additional $100 million on marketing, which makes the budget upwards of $300 MILLION dollars. It will NEVER make it's money back and it will cost them money in the FUTURE, since people have no trust in them to put out a quality product. They are foot-shooters, fools, product assassins.

It made just over $50 mil the first weekend domestically; if it has an equal showing overseas even with a steep drop off in the second weekend (let's say 60%) it should break even in the theaters with a four week run. Figure in DVD sales/rentals and the licensing fees from tv outlets (HBO and such) plus the money from digital outlets like iTunes and it should turn a modest profit even with the metric ass load spent on marketing. That being said, if they make a sequel I'd wager a day's pay they won't spend on production. If nothing else, this movie proves beyond a reasonable doubt that there will never be a Justice League movie. Even absolute stinkers can turn a handy profit when you consider all avenues of distribution. With Hollywood in the mire of sequel-mania (and apparently grasping for movie ideas) I wouldn't be surprised if they have a sequel already planned. And what about international numbers? Has it been released overseas? Plus there are the DVD sales to consider. I doubt that WB would just dump this and movie on. So...it will end up making maybe $80 on a $300 dollar investment. There's no chance of a sequel. X-Men had good reviews and held over decently. It's also part of an established franchise. It didn't overwhelm, but if they make a sequel and put Wolverine in it, they'll make a few bucks. There's history and the numbers in relation to the budget inspired hope. GL had nothing for anyone to hold on to unless you count the hope that ten thousand people fell in love with Sinestro and can't wait to see him be the bad guy next time. Spoiler warning - they didn't. The only thing WB can cling to is they were the "number one movie in America" that week. They may even throw some more money in the toilet advertising that fact. More good money after bad. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I knew Luke would, he likes everything. I knew Van would, he has books to sell, but it won't be bothering us any time in the future. We won't have Hal Jordan to kick around any more. GL was a braying donkey. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Bailey <[email protected]> To: theuniquegeek <[email protected]> Sent: Mon, Jun 20, 2011 8:31 am Subject: Re: [The Unique Geek] Superhero box office chart That is interesting. All things considered and compared to the two other super-hero films of the summer GL didn't too badly. That is a 2500 or so dollar difference between First Class and they were talking sequel that first weekend.
