This is the main point. Maybe we are confusing whether it was a "good" movie
vs. whether or not it was a profitable movie. Ultimately, the "good" part is
personal. I, like Luke, think Starship Troopers is one of the best movies ever
made. I think that maniac who came on here savaging it because it wasn't like
the book was totally coconuts.

Terrible movies get sequels. Big Momma's House 3, fer chrissake. But those
terrible movies that got sequels made money at some point prior to the sequel.
They were profitable.

Green Lantern will not be for a very long time, if ever. There will be no
licensing from it. No one in Illinois is going to line up to buy Big Gulp cups
with Tomar Re on them, kids aren't clamoring for a Lego Oa. I'm sure Reese's
regrets their too-early involvement.

But, yes, Luke, what ultimately matters is your own personal experience with a
movie. With GL, you will have to accept it's all you're going to get.

One of the other realities here which we have not mentioned is that
reen Lantern is going to face a tougher road than its competition as
ell. Cars 2 is right around the next turn (see what I did there) and
isney Pixar should never be underestimated, especially in the wake of
he big numbers of Toy Story 3, and when considering the crossover
ppeal of the Cars property.
The other reality is that any one individual viewer's reaction to a
ilm has nothing to do with how the film performs. If I liked the film
t was because I thought it was a fun movie, not because I am
esperately hoping it succeeds. "A song is a song, ya either dig it
r ya don't."

DC still has the top grossing movie in that genre with The Dark Knight.

And when The Dark Knight Rises comes out it's going to blow the numbers off
 the chart.
