The most recent incarnation of the Guardians fought both Thanos and Annihilus and his "Annihilation Wave."
There's been some speculation that, officially or only in Joss's head, the aliens represented part of the Annihilation Wave, and the "Other" was Annihilus himself. Whether official or not, they definitely served that purpose. The Guardians also have recently included both Drax the Destroyer and Adam Warlock as members, and they are two of Thanos's three main enemies.
