While I agree with you that Dr. Mid-Nite would have been a good choice, I 
am alright with it being Alan Scott.  If the first issue of Earth 2 showed 
us anything, its that this is a very different Earth 2 than we remember 
from the good old days.  And now DC can say that one of their original, 
Golden Age characters (one with a name you all recognize, even if you 
couldn't pick him out of a lineup) is a homosexual.  So that suits their 
needs at this time.

Making Hawkman gay would have just set eyes a rolling, I think.  Oh, the 
big burly guy who doesn't wear a shirt and carries round gigantic medieval 
phal-err, I mean weapons, is gay?  Bestill my beating heart! ;)
