I'm totally good with the casting. Rewatched "Fires of Pompeii" and could definitely see him as the Doctor (a little humor, but capable of edginess and compassion). And yes, casting someone a little older is reminiscent of the original series. This guy is the same age as William Hartnell (the old first Doctor) when he took the role.
