I used to be a big fan of Skype but, yes, it has been very poor for the past, probably, two or three years. Granted, Google Hangouts does have some video quality issues but a lot of the times it depends on the hardware and broadband of the device you are using. My wife, nephew and other family members and I use Hangouts all the time for IM and video and, so far, it works flawlessly. However, I was on a public Hangout last Friday night that had about 7 members on it and I found that the more people were added the worse the quality. I believe we first started out with about 4 and as it increased I noticed the quality got worse. Google needs to put some more of their bandwidth and servers behind that issue.
