I had good luck with both Ubuntu and Knoppix (great for using as a CD-based OS
to recover data from corrupt installs of Windows that couldn't run), but I'm
happier with OSX. I stopped using AVG after getting some bad results; it missed
more than a few things that others (including MSE) would nab. This is about
more than just MSE though, the operating system won't receive any more updates
either- all future vulnerabilities found will go unaddressed.
