Just going to open this up for anyone who wants to discuss The Force Awakens with spoilers.
My wife and I saw it on a Saturday show in 2D. Theater was about 1/3rd filled. The large screen/3D showings appeared to be better attended, however. Overall, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. It's a lot of fun, looks beautiful, and introduced enough mysteries and twists to keep me thinking about it afterwards. It is derivative of the other OT movies in big setpieces -- fighters running the gauntlet to destroy the enemy weapon, a small crew taking out the shield generator to help the fighters, a father and son have a confrontation on an aerial walkway, secret information hidden in a droid on a desert planet, and so forth -- and the humor is pretty overtly modernist. It raised some real questions for me, including: What is the relationship of the Republic and the Resistance? Does it even matter now that the Senate went kablooey? (Aside, is there a bigger dig at the prequels then literally blowing up the Senate?) How does Finn manage to hold his own -- and even get a few hits in -- on Kylo Ren? How does all of Kylo Ren's hair fit inside his helmet? Why was the Resistance officer with the big white beard NOT General Madine? Best gag, by far, were the two Stormtroopers turning around and walking away from Kylo Ren's rage out. That got a huge laugh and I am still chuckling about it now. For the trailers, we saw a bunch, including Batman V Superman, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, Zootopia, The Fifth Wave (which was also attached to Mockingjay Part 2), and a few others. When Wonder Woman showed up in the BvS trailer, there were cheers of approval.
