Cottonmouth is an interesting choice, he was a drug czar in the pages of Power Man. Willis Stryker (Diamondback) stole a shipment of drugs from Cottonmouth to frame his best friend Carl Lucas, which is how the eventual Luke Cage ended up in Seagate, so there is a good story connection there -- and Diamondback dies the first time he tangles with Cage, so he is not a good ongoing villain. Making Black Mariah into Cottonmouth's cousin is an interesting choice, but since I am pretty sure Mariah will be a "legit" character, the idea of a politician and a crime lord having a familial connection and possibly working together works for me. FWIW Black Mariah just reappeared in the pages of the new Power Man & Iron Fist. The plot description suggests that Luke has been out of prison for a good while when the story starts. One of the misconceptions of the early Luke Cage stories was that they took place in, and he was the defender of, Harlem, which is simply not true. Luke was based in Midtown (Times Square) and purposefully avoided Harlem when possible since he was concerned someone would recognize him. I want to say that under Bendis Cage became more community minded and less mercantile, and I think he and Jessica live in Harlem with their daughter. This is alright, though, it's a valid interpretation of the character.
