Hi Chris Just so we make sure that this isn't the cause, could you download a fresh version of the Sphinx source, run ./configure with the command- line args we've established work, and then 'make' and 'sudo make install'? I don't always trust recompiling within the same folder.
Mind you, if that doesn't help matters, then we'll have to find a different approach to the problem.
