There is indeed a way:
   ThinkingSphinx.search :conditions => {:value => 'xxx'}
(If you're using the latest version, otherwise:
   ThinkingSphinx::Search.search :conditions => {:value => 'xxx'}
)

Accepts the same syntax as A.search
