Hi Nick Sorry for the delay in responding this - travelling and my laptop has died.
It definitely seems like SphinxQL is the way forward - although I would like to check whether any features in the API don't exist in SphinxQL at the moment. I think switching to SphinxQL is what Thinking Sphinx and Riddle will do (well, Riddle will support both), but it's worth noting that I don't plan on supporting SphinxQL for 1.x releases of Thinking Sphinx (and thus, Rails 2.x and earlier). The codebase is complicated enough as it is. Still, this is all just talk at the moment - I've not tried using SphinxQL from code yet, nor really thought about what needs to change internally for TS and Riddle. As for fine-tuning queries? Well, one step at a time :) -- Pat On 8/24/2010, "Nick Sellen" <[email protected]> wrote: >It looks like the future of Sphinx is in the direction of SphinxQL >over the native API and that it's also faster (http://sphinxsearch.com/ >blog/2010/04/25/sphinxapi-vs-sphinxql-benchmark/).
