Hi Stephen
Indexing can be done without stopping Sphinx - the searchd daemon will
be informed when indexing has finished, and reloads the data then.
Also, if 40 million records is taking hours, either you have some
complex index definitions, or there's some database optimisation that
could speed things up.

if the server is not running... How would I ever reindex the the core
