Hi Geoffrey Sorry for not responding sooner - I've not used TS/Sphinx with UNIX sockets before, so this was an area I really wasn't sure about.
However, it turns out TS v3 does *not* yet support sockets. Initially, I wasn't sure Sphinx's SphinxQL protocol allowed for that (and that's the protocol TS v3 uses), but I've recently been informed that it is possible: https://github.com/pat/thinking-sphinx/issues/817 Proper support isn't yet implemented, but hopefully it will be soon. If anyone wants to attempt writing a patch for TS to handle this, that'd be great, but otherwise, when I have time, I'll sort it out.
