Several things come to mind.
If this is a 2 Cd install set, you need to make sure you set the BIOS to
boot from CD first, not use F12, that somehow re-sets the BIOS and the
second CD won't boot properly and it will give an incomplete install. This
is a common issue on THinkPads.
The other thing is that if the CD won't boot, it is either disk 2 or it is
defective. As RayBay suggested, try to copy the CD. ALSO, if this is not a
CD that is specific to your ThinkPad, it may not work. While often an IBM CD
can be used on an ThinkPad, some of them are BIOS specific and just won't
work unless it is the right thinkpad. They way around that is to put the
hard drive into the proper ThinkPad and do the base install (at least the
recovery partition), then replace into the unit and go from there.
