Here is an example of the slipstreaming process:

http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2000_xp_sp_slipstreaming.htm

of Particular note is steps 5 and 7

5. Extract the service pack source files from the downloaded SP file and put
them in a folder you choose on your hard disk. For example, if you've
downloaded SP4 for Windows 2000 to a folder called D:\W2KSP4 then type the
following:

7. After you've extracted the files you can apply the service pack to the
Windows 2000/XP/2003 installation files located in the folder named
D:\Win2000\i386 or D:\XP\i386 respectively by typing the following:
D:\W2KSP4\i386\Update\Update.exe -s:D:\WIN2000

Anyhoo, the instructions are there; feel free to review.

Maybe I misunderstood something; I was thinking of the \i386 directory
on the HDD. Is this the one that is upgraded as you install patches and
updates? Or does it just remain a static copy of the original install CD?
