I did look at the hardware manual, but I'm not quite sure
which is the relevant part.
Is it the "Mini PCI adaptor" or the "Modem daughter card"?

I don't actually have a WiFi card in this T43 (I do in other T43's).
As far as I can see (from Linux lspci) I have a modem controller:
Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) 
  AC'97 Modem Controller
