I don't really want to upgrade as most of the reviews I've seen don't
speak too highly of the thinkpad workmanship these days. What I want
is a solid construction laptop (no flexing or creasing with pressure)
with a core 2 duo and at least a 1GB of ram and at least a 100GB HDD.

Does anyone have any personal experience with the newer brands. I'm
looking for essentially what I have now in the T23 just with a faster
processor and more memory and storage space.

I have a T60. It is very well built. Not quite up to 600X standard, but nothing is. You can get one with a Core 2 Duo. It will use 3GB of RAM. I have a 320GB disk in mine, and larger are available.

The T60p has a very nice video chip, but the X1400 I have is no slouch.

You'll also get faster memory, not just more.

The T61/p is also (from what I read) another fine choice.

I'm very happy with my T60 and will look at another ThinkPad when it's time to upgrade. Perhaps the T400, or maybe X300-series.
