You could hardly do worse than a T23 for reliability. Almost anything you get would be better.

and T42's are at a sweet spot for price/performance/reliability right now.
OTOH, my wife's T23 has been the most trouble-free TP we've owned. She had to replace the HD once - that's it. By contrast, my son's T42 had to get a new MB because the USB stopped working (apparently a common problem, according to The Google), and now he's having problems with the power jack. (Other than that, it is a great machine.)
If you do audio work on your laptop, watch out for newer TPs (T61 and later), as they have disabled stereo mixing at the hardware level.
