Hello,
I have not had any hands-on time with the X60, but if Lenovo implemented all
of the functionality of the ICH7M chipset according to Intel's
datasheet at http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/datasheet/307013.pdf
then you should have
both PATA and SATA controllers present, even if all the drives are on one
controller but not the other. At least, that's how I read it.

No, I hadn't!

I just did that, and it seemed to have worked. Intel installed a program
called "Intel Matrix Storage Console" that reports info looking as
follows (when viewed in advanced mode):
http://www.wordfast.fi/images/intel-matrix-storage-console.jpg
In Device Manager, I still have (under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"):
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF
Driver Provider: Intel
Driver Date: 23.05.2005
Driver version: 7.0.0.1020
Under it, I also have:
Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller
Driver Provider: Intel
Driver Date: 11.02.2009
Driver version: 8.8.0.1009
Does that mean the first row is now redundant? I no longer remember if I
had the second row under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" before.
Anyway, thanks Aryeh, looks like I'm current as far as the SATA
controller is concerned!
Cheers, Dominique
