Had this been caught soon enough the jack could have been replaced, but at this point I think the only cure is a replacement system board. However, you can examine the board and see if there is a blackened spot that can be scraped and resoldered.

Feared as much. No black points, so both system boards are now in the trash =(. That was a hundred pounds well spent, not! Well you win some and you loose some. Thanks for your reply though.
