OK, so I took a more detailed look at the machine (should have done that in
the very first place). This user had updated to SP3 (and did not even know
it, just like she upgraded to "Antivirus 2009", which is of course a virus.
I TOLD HER STOP CLICKING ON THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND).
So anyway, I went into safe mode and uninstalled the two network adaptors.
On re-boot, the adaptors were found, installed and work. So the SP3 upgrade
did not register the adaptors properly. Might be a good FYI for someone.

So I have a customer with a T60p. I don't know WHAT she did, but here it
is:
NEITHER network adaptor appears in network properties. BOTH appear in
Device
Manager. Fn+F5 brings up the radio power screen, but the wifi won't turn
on.
I also get "do you want to turn on wifi?" messages, but when I click yes,
nothing happens.
I must admit I am clueless. Anyone?
