Just doublechecking here. You are holding down F1 until you see the 8611
error? Does it reboot directly without giving you a chance to press a
button? If you are given a chance to press a different button then you could
try pressing ESC once or try the process again and press F1 just once at
that point. Sometimes you may be able to get into the BIOS that way.

I would also experiment with trying to press and hold the F1 button at
slightly different times: for e.g., start holding only after seeing the
memory count start to go and let go as soon as you see the first flicker or
error...

Once you are in the BIOS, then I would recommend doing a CMOS edit rather
than just disabling the TrackPoint. Disabling the TrackPoint through the
standard BIOS interface won't stop the error messages I think since the POST
sequence will still test for it. To stop the error from showing up you have
to actually edit the CMOS itself and change a particular bit that controls
the TrackPoint.
