Good choice for a backup Thinkpad?

I've had good fortune with my machine... so far. But PCs in general and
notebooks in particular are not high-availability kit, especially if they take
a tumble or two. This is a T4x.
      What's a good choice for a backup thinkpad?  Uses would be mostly light;
mail, web, read/write an occasional dvd, and possibly network with the 'dead'
machine to move files.

     Cost: As a backup machine, only enough to get the job done. I'm guessing
this can be done for <$300.
     Desired features: Internal wireless. Sharp screen, like the hi-res I have
now. Uses 2.5 HD, or at least holds one in the expanion bay. Less fragile than
average: the case needs some resistance flexing and impact, and it can't have
the brittle solder issue. Had XP Pro as an ibm install option (so the backup
will have the same OS as the primary).
