We love our T-42 as the most reliable Thinkpad ever... R50, X31, X41, and
the 600X or T23 are good if you do not need high memory and extra speed.

The T-42 might be a tad high, but it is the best dollar value...   for
cheap, you cannot beat the 600X.   Some T-30's are great, but some are
Turkeys... and a pared down T60 is a good value.
