I've checked that as well, thanks. Just to prove how anal I can get about this stuff, I put the HD from the no-sound machine into another display-less T21 I've got lying around and the sound in that machine worked just fine. Given that result I'm going to proceed on the assumption that this is hardwarre related. But, as Bruce noted, normally if the sound card is dead the drivers won't install. Ah well, the machine has to leave at midnight tonight in a horse caravan heading to FL. The recipient can live without laptop sound for a while.
