You need IE to perform tasks on www.microsoft.com, so if you are going to use IE, use IE 7.0 or 8. for safest results.
Some people care about bloat when they already have all the memory they can use, and harddrive free space they will never use. I don't have time to worry about "bloat" unless it affects my use of my computer... Have religiously avoided IE since Firefox came out. However, we have four repair shops where we fix a lot of Dells and HP's. There are now a lot of things you cannot do on well, if at all, on the Dell and HP's site for downloading drivers or connecting for information. I resent the fact that Dell and HP have been talked into remaining close to Microsoft if that way... but there is nothing we can do about it.
