Hello, I posted before about the lockup problems I was having with my X300. Lenovo/IBM wouldn't service it unless I could reproduce the problem without a ton of extra applications (which I don't consider unreasonable). I did a bunch of backups to various places, then reinstalled Windows Vista Ultimate from disk. I didn't install anything else, except Lenovo and Windows updates.
Of course I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. :( Though maybe that means it's fixed. :) Also of course, I haven't done much with the machine (no apps), though I've got two USB-powered HDs plugged into it, since I thought I'd read of some problems with the side USB ports (can't find the references now). I even copied lots and lots of files back and forth between the external HD and the internal SSD, with no problems. At this point I figure I might as well install Windows 7, and maybe start using the machine for non-critical things, perhaps with MS Office and my email (The Bat!) installed, the latter leaving everything on the server for now. I have a license for Windows 7 Ultimate, though it's not Thinkpad-specific. The MS Windows 7 Update Advisor lists some issues with some of the Vista apps, e.g. Diskeeper and much of the Lenovo stuff. Is it safe to do a clean install of this Windows 7 Ultimate from DVD? Or do I need to track down a ThinkPad-specific version? I assume the Lenovo apps will be downloadable from their site but wonder if there are any other issues. Thanks! -- Andrew mailto:[email protected] _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
