Agreed, backlight (CCFL) is failing. Although the backlight itself can be
replaced, it's somewhat of a PITA job, and you're much better off picking up an
entire LCD or a complete assembly on TPF or fleabay for $50 or so...

Cheers,

George

Subject: [Thinkpad] ailing T42 - LCD display is biased towards red

Hello:

Can someone give me a hint as to what is going on with a friend's T42
(23780-DUU)?

The LCD display is fairly dim and the start-up screen for WinXP looks
as if one is viewing through a red-tinted screen.

The display was dark before I replaced the inverter with a new
(supposedly) replacement. Plugging the T42 into a external display
results in a normal appearing screen.

Thanks,
Mitchell
