It may be "detecting" a monitor attached. Try cycling thru Fn + F7 (not sure
if that's still the key combo).

Why would the backlight on my T60 be going out while connected to the
docking station, but not while running on battery?
(Pardon any mis-spellings, I'm having to type in the blind while holding a
flshlight to the screen :)
And as you'd expect, warranty ran out back in August.
