Thanks Bruce, that really sounded promising, but that had no effect.  I have
lowered all display acceleration via display properties to see what happens.

This is strange, sometimes the display will stay up for several minutes
while docked or on AC, but will then blackout.  Running on battery last
night, the display stayed up all the way until the battery drained.

I lowered all display accelerations now about two minutes ago and the
display is still up... Hopefully that will squeeze some more life out of my
T60.

It may be "detecting" a monitor attached. Try cycling thru Fn + F7 (not sure
if that's still the key combo).
