Display lifetime, continued. I should have mentioned that this is a T40p. Will it fade away gradually or suddenly become unusable? Based on hours, hours x brightness, or on/off cycles? This has been a good machine, it's at 2x the normal obsolescence time for a notebook and is still useful. The lower chassis should have had a metal reinforcing from though, it's quite flexy.
btw, an earlier issue I had with screen flickering turned out to be software. Web browsers loading multiple tabs would cause either the right or left of the desktop icons buttons to flicker, and at first only Opera would do this. The backlight was not affected. We have had T42 and T43 in the Himalays, Honduras, Alaska, and New Zealand. The T41 has more problems with back light and inverter... We have yet to see the problem in a T42 or T43...
