I am trying to turn my 57) into a netbook by using a Cf card and an adapter like this one: http://www.addonics.com/products/flash_memory_reader/ad44midecf.asp

Problem is that the 570 does not 'see' the CF card as a drive at boot time.

The BIOS in older ThinkPads will not recognize these adapters. I have a similar CF card to IDE adapter, and it's recognized in my 380XD (released May 1998) but not recognized in my 701C (released Mar 1995). The 570 was released about 1999, so it must be just over the age limit.

My only suggestion would be to make sure you have updated the BIOS to the most recent version.
My bios is still the original so I will give that a try.

The bios update instructions say that you need ac power -and- a charged battery. What is the charged battery (which I don't have anymore) used for? Will the update succeed without one?

Thanks again.
