Hold F1 while booting to enter the BIOS. Try hitting the Access Thinkpad button while booting to see if the partition is truly gone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "max danger" <[email protected]>

Subject: [Thinkpad] T60 serial number and recovery disks

I am trying to help a friend back-migrate from Win7 to WinXP to regain
compatibility with essential application programs and because the version of
Win7 on her used (previously owned) Thinkpad T60 has turned out to be an
evaluation copy of Win7 soon to expire. A hidden (we assume, the factory
restore) partition (100MB) still exists and Windows thinks it holds 38MB of
content, but examining the partition shows only six 1KB files, i. e., the
contents have been wiped. She wasn't able to buy the recovery disks from
Lenovo because the model-type with serial number tag was peeled off the
bottom of the laptop case although the Windows label with XP product key is
still there. When we asked the seller what was the model-type and serial
number and what happened to the label, he just said "it should be there,"
which of course does not answer the question.

Questions: Does the T60 store the serial number in some manner besides the
bottom label? For example, is it in the BIOS (wasn't this the implication
of the T41p HMD disketter thread) or is it on the motherboard? What is the easiest way to recover the model-type and serial numbers besides opening the case? When she connected to Lenovo, its online system could not detect her
machine type. Failing determination of the model-type and serial numbers
and buying recovery CDs from Lenovo, can anyone help us acquire the needed
recovery disks. If we cannot find this information or acquire workable
recovery disks, then we will just have to rebuild the system manually by
installing XP, the drivers, and ThinkVantage--a tedious process. We would
be grateful for any suggestions or offers.
