I'm thinking of getting a new notebook, something with more speed and storage than the X300 (and more weight of course, but I'm not travelling much right now).
Of course I want a ThinkPad. Going strictly by screen sizes, I'm thinking of a 6lb 15" model. The SL510 is very attractively priced but I'm not sure it's the right thing for me, a T510 sounds better. I can't put my finger on why, and it doesn't seem easy to compare the SL510 and T510. Some things I noticed in reviewing the specs, are these true? -- Are there fundamental differences between SL510 and T510? I think the former has glossy case (boo!) but otherwise is it just slower and weaker and cheaper, or is there something else there? -- No more 802.11a? -- What's HD and HD+? The Lenovo site helpful links to a list of resolutions that doesn't include these. I'm guessing HD might be 1920x1080. HD+ adds 4+ weeks to delivery of the T510. -- On some machines, the default screen is "no WWAN antenna" and the upgrade with "with WWAN antenna" is $0. Does that make any sense? Where can I read up on having built-in WWAN vs. a USB stick? -- Lenovo.ca prices seem to be about 50% more than Lenovo.com prices, on the add-ons at least (e.g. $29 vs. $20). I'm not completely surprised, when I bought the T41p, Canadian retail on the notebook was 25% more than US retail, after converting the latter to C$. I can ship to Plattsburgh though then I pay NY taxes as well as Canadian GST and PST. -- Does any reseller ever keep up with Lenovo's constant discounting? Amazon.com seems to come closest, though they still seem to be $50 or $100 more than Lenovo's prices. Amazon would typically be in stock though, vs. 1-2 weeks (or more) from Lenovo. I'm surprised there are so many retailers when the manufacturer undercuts them constantly. Thanks! -- Andrew mailto:[email protected] _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
