Thanks, Jonathan! CoreTemp (& the related Sidebar Gadget) appears to do
what I want. I'm now using it on a 13" Edge running 64-bit Win 7 Pro.
I had a UAC-related problem (CoreTemp wouldn't load at start
up if UAC was enabled), but the following workaround ("Make Vista launch
UAC restricted programs at startup with Task Scheduler") solved it:
