Been there, done that, had the partitioning mess up the disk. IIRC, it had to do with AHCI and the version of Partition Magic I was using. One way I fixed it was to switch the disk to compatibility mode in the BIOS. That sometimes worked. Better solution was to use a different partition manager. I used one of the ones free for home use and it worked fine.
