Of course, this is my ThinkPad. Perhaps its fitting. Anyway, earlier (a month+) I updated the BIOS on my W500 and bricked it. Getting it back a few days later, it died again. What happened both time was this: upon booting up the LEDs would briefly flicker as normal, and then..... Nothing. No Bios screen, no disk activity.
Getting my W500 back the second time, I thought the problem was fixed. Last weekend it froze on me, and shutting the system down resulted in..... Nothing. But this time, after calling EXSERV for a box, I booted up again, and went through the Nothing period, it booted after a 10 minute wait! I'd sort of forgotten that I had it on, so when I looked at it I was amazed to be at the password prompt. I've now booted up several times. The system has been flawless once up. Rebooting the machine results in another waiting period. The *weird* part is that it takes almost exactly 10 minutes. I'm going to time this tonight. What on earth is happening here? It's consistently booting, after a consistent period of time. Any ideas? Or am I reduced to waving a dead weasel over my W500 while playing Lawrence Welk music backwards? --STeve Andre' _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
