There are no drivers. There are the IDE adaptors that appear in device
manager. To run XP on a 600, you may need to find updated IDE drivers and I
have no idea where you can find them. But it is choking on the IDE loadup.
The old trick was to change from DMA to PIO mode (you can do this in safe
mode) and see if that helps.

Subject: [Thinkpad] ThinkPad 600. UDJA750 Problems
Hi
I have a ThinkPad 600 which is running Windows XP Home and Ubuntu 10.04.
I replaced the original CD ROM drive with a UDJA750 Combo drive.
It works fine in Ubuntu and is detected no problems. However, with it
installed XP will not boot. It freezes on the black xp loading screen with
the little blue progress bar going back and forth.
I booted into safe mode and it worked fine. Check Control Panel and it
shows the drive there.
I removed the drivers and rebooted as suggested by a friend in da puter
business, but no joy.
Any ideas. I have never had drive problems before and I am puzzled why
Ubuntu works fine but XP doesnt.
It cant be a hardware thing it must be software related.
Please help.
Simon
