David I tried Xubuntu with LXDE installed and it gave no where near the performance that Lubuntu does.
Also, while I think the suggested minimum specs for Ubuntu are high, I dont think 300mhz is quite enough, which is what my ThinkPad is. For anyone wanting to stay with the buntu range but dont have the machine to take Ubuntu, I would suggest trying Lubuntu. Dont bother with Xubuntu, while it is a nice version, its no less resource heavy than Ubuntu.
