The one and only very serious caveat: if you're buying a T61/p with nVidia
graphics, make sure that it has warranty remaining because of the high failure
rate of these graphic cards.

My personal choice for a machine that isn't going to be stressed out a lot or
demanded much from would be a T61 with Intel graphics. Allows 8GB RAM out of
the box, and will run any 64-bit OS.

Good luck shopping.

Cheers,

George

Subject: Re: [Thinkpad] T60 or T61? Any Advice Very Welcome

They're both great systems and you really can't go wrong with either. My
daughter has a T60 and my wife has a T61p. There are obviously a few spec
differences but they are more owner preference than real differentiators. I
personally prefer the 1920x1200 widescreen of the T61p but that comes at the
expense of being about 2" wider. Both are built like the good old ThinkPads
always have been. They still must be pretty rugged because my daughter uses
hers at college and lugs it around all over the place.

The only issues we've had with them have been a failed HD on the T60 and the
battery suffering an early sudden death at 13 months on the same system (this
was a known issue that Lenovo issued a recall for, just not for our particular
system). But any T6x system should be beyond the age where the battery failure
would happen by now.
