Hi

After struggling all day yesterday some late night browsing came up with an
answer.

I tried installing XP by copying the installer files to the hard drive. On
reboot it would sit at the 'setup is installing files please wait' screen.

I was assuming it had stalled and failed so I gave up and tried 2000.

The copying files across in 2000 took over an hour but it kept you updated even
though it was slow. One copied the rest of the installer was fast and smooth.

So I did XP again the same way and left it over night. It is something to do
with not having Smartdrv set up, this can make the installer files take up to 5
hours to finish copying.

Got up this morning and low and behold the copying was complete it was
prompting me for the next part of the installer.

As I write this on my phone my TP has rebooted into the graphical installer
side and is now 'installing devices'.

I would say give it 30 minutes and the installation will be complete.

So, I have successfully installed XP Home on a 240X without a CD drive, floppy
drive or USB boot.

Its been a learning curve and a stressful one but I its been worth it.

Luckily when I was sorting partitions I made a partition for XP, a small one
for the installer files plus one for Linux, which I will attempt once XP is up
and running fully.
