32bit Linux supports 4GB and even more (but you need to use a *-686-bigmem
kernel for that).  The default *-686 kernels support up to 3GB, in
my experience.

Basically, if you have to ask, the answer is that it doesn't matter.

In which case the 32bit option might be preferable since it is slightly
better supported/tested (more widely used) and since some third party
non-Free applications (Adobe's come to mind) have historically been more
widely available and more reliable or better supported for the 686
kernels than for the amd64 kernels.

As long as you don't mix 32bit and 64bit thingies (which is supported
but has some shortcomings) and as long as you stick to Free Software
(which I strongly recommend), it shouldn't matter much either way.
