Every time you upgrade/downgrade the BIOS, you take the theoretical risk of bricking the machine.
Take it from someone who has seen more T43/p units than 99.9% of the mankind: just throw the drive in, set the BIOS to continue booting after the warning, and enjoy. BTW, BIOS downgrade just kills the warning, theoretical danger of data loss STILL exists. Your ThinkPad, your call. Good luck. I got one of the Hitachi 100gb drives for my laptop that all the thinkpad related wiki sites say is not approved but works for the T43 but the howto said I would need to downgrade to the 1.03 firmware for the motherboard to not throw that 21** whatever error. I will try the drive in my laptop and see how it goes. It's easy enough to swap back if it fails I guess. Thanks for the information. If you're referring to downgrading the BIOS to 1.03 I would STRONGLY advise you against it, since you will lose a lot of fan control and GPU support that came with later BIOS versions. I've been running a non-approved drive in a T43p for three years now with no issues, BTW. YMMV. Anyway its the one allowing you to install the Hitachi HDD that is 100gb in a T43. All I can find on Lenovo support is the downloadable which fails with some unintelligible error before rebooting to perform the flash. _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
