You'd have to troubleshoot the fuses on the motherboard because one or more of
them might have blown.

I own a T42 motherboard which behaves in somewhat similar manner, and when I
first ripped the machine apart to diagnose the problem I noticed the traces of
moisture in the charging area. That's another thing you may want to be looking
for once the machine is fully opened.

If you're in no mood to troubleshoot the issue at hand, swapping the board is
an easy way out, presuming that the condition of the rest of the laptop
warrants such an investment.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Subject: [Thinkpad] Power problem with T43 thinkpad

Hello,
I'm currently having a really annoying problem with my T43 thinkpad. My AC
dapter died (actually, the connector broke) and I replaced it with a new
ne (same output as the old one, an original IBM/Lenovo). It appears that
he 1) battery won't charge and 2) the computer won't start without battery.
he interesting thing is that the computer works perfectly with the battery
nserted.
Since the yellow connector was very damaged (this is an used T43 I bought
wo years ago) I replaced it with a new one (again, an original Lenovo/IBM
art) and nothing seems to change.
o I guess the problem is located just between the power entry and the
attery since my computer starts on battery power.
Do you think I can manage to find a solution or is the motherboard rotten?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
aurent
