I'm not sure of you quite want to do, but a high-end thinkpad with a docking
station and large display/keyboard will do just about all jobs nicely,
IF you
don't have to plug in external hardware for development purposes, etc.
I got several of my faculty on a hardware setup that I mentioned. They
can do everything they want here, AND can take stuff with them when
they unplug from the docking station.
It seems the best of both worlds, to me, and personally I'll never go
back to being chained to a machine on my desk.
