Hello,

I purchased a battery for my T43p from DealExtreme. Seems to work okay. Of
course, that doesn't mean that a T23 battery would even be from the same
manufacturer.

I purchased both the single-core and dual-core X100e models, and ended up
giving them to family members in preparation for an X120e.

A few observations, things to keep in mind and caveats, all in no particular
order:

o For my usage, the X100e seemed to handle with about the same performance
as a T42. Of course, it costs (and weighs) less than a T42. Plus is
   still under warranty.

o I had the larger six-cell battery and battery life was 2.5-3 hours with
the settings and programs I was using.

o If you do purchase the X100e (or the newer X120e) consider increasing
the RAM up to 4GB or 8GB (8GB was ~$90 or so, the last time I checked
from NewEgg). You will, of course, need a 64-bit operating system to
take advantage of more than 4GB of RAM. The X100e uses DDR2, and the
   the X120e uses DDR3.

o You may want to consider an SSD as well, as that may help with battery
life. It certainly performs a lot faster than a hard disk drive.

o No problems using an Asus, Samsung, or Velocity Micro external USB DVD±RW
disc drive with the X100e, so I am assuming optical drive compatibility
is broad. Not known to be a problem on recent ThinkPads, but I did want
   to mention.

o If you do go with Microsoft Windows 7, you will need to spend some time
installing ATI's device drivers for performance and reliability reasons
over the older ones provided by Lenovo. Also, the latest version of
Adobe Flash (v10.2.x) performs much better than the provided one due to
   its handling of GPU acceleration.

o The keyboard works quite well, with the keys being spaced far apart enough
to be usable, just the right amount of pitch, slight concave indentations
which guide the fingers to the center of each key, etc. Keyboard layout
is what you would expect from a ThinkPad and it has a TrackPoint.

Unfortunately, I did not do anything audio-specific enough to have an opinion
about sound quality.

Hello all,
I'm considering buying a new battery for my T23 instead of getting an X100e
(also up for consideration).

For batteries, I've found:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009O5VCE
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MZUJUE
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/17683
http://www.batteryrefill.com/laptops/ibm/thinkpad_t20_d.phtml

Any recommendations? The reason I'm considering the X100e is because I find
I rarely use the optical drive (I have a USB drive if I need it) and the
frame on the T23 is starting to break in a few places (near the left hinge
behind the optical drive). As it is, the X100e is much more powerful as
well, and has a far superior graphics processor (ATI Radeon HD2200 vs S3
SuperSavage IX/C). I think expected battery life will be similar as well.

However, sound quality matters as well, including electrical noise in the
inputs and outputs, not to mention keyboard quality.

Thoughts? Opinions?
