Has anyone successfully connected an external Firewire hard drive (with it's own external power supply) to the 4-pin (i.Link) firewire (IEEE 1394a) interface found on some Thinkpads? I have both a T61 and an X31 that have this interface, and I'd prefer to use it over USB if I can.

What I'm seeing when I connect the drive is the drive listed in device manager with the yellow exclamation point and the entry states:
"OEM OEM ATA Device 00 IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device"

Tried connecting prior to boot up, in case it was an AHCI/Compatability mode thing w/ the SATA interface (seemed unlikely since the SATA nature of the drive is I believe masked by the Firewire interface) - but no luck. Also tried disabling the 1394 Net Adapter as per some Internet posts. Again, no luck.
